Prof Cecil Czerkinsky Biography:

After retiring as Research Director from INSERM (French National Institute of Health and
Medical Research) in November 2020, I have since served as senior Adviser/Consultant,
advising public and private sector organizations active in vaccine development (pre-clinical and
clinical), including product development (process manufacturing, formulation, stability, PK,
toxicology), qualification/implementation of immunogenicity assays to support clinical (phase
I to phase 3 and post-marketing) testing and product licensing.

Prior to my relocation to France in 2014, I served from 2005 to 2012 as Deputy Director General
and senior scientific director responsible for initiating, leading and managing the R&D program
of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI), an international organization headquartered in Seoul
(South Korea) and dedicated to the development and introduction of vaccines for lesser
developed countries.

Prior to my secondment to Korea, I served as Research Director of the Mucosal Immunology
and Vaccinology Division from 1997 to 2005 at INSERM in Nice, France.
Between 1982 and 1997, I held several post-doctoral and faculty positions in Sweden (Goteborg
University), the U.S. (University of Alabama at Birmingham, Emory University in Atlanta),
and the UK (Guy’s and King’s College, London).

I have been an adviser for several supranational, international, and national agencies, including
WHO, the European Academy of Sciences Network, the French Agency on AIDS Research,
the US National Institutes of Health, and private not-for-profit foundations such as the Bill &
Melinda Gates Foundation. I also advise biopharma corporations active in vaccine and
immunotherapeutics.

I have published over 180 articles including reviews with a major focus on mucosal
immunobiology and vaccines.
