Shahin Gharakhanian, MD, is Chair of DECOY Therapeutics Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) & Chief Medical Officer. Shahin Gharakhanian MD is board certified in Infectious Diseases & Internal Medicine formerly Senior Attending Physician at Paris Public Hospitals (AP-HP), France, one of the largest academic & healthcare systems in the world. Concerning the specific R&D areas relevant to this VACCINES Conference 2025, Dr Gharakhanian has been engaged in numerous projects on viral diseases notably AIDS/Human Immunodeficiency Virus infection, Influenza, chronic hepatitis B and C, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Dr Gharakhanian’s most recent corporate position was Vice-President, Medicines Development Group, Global Research & Development, VERTEX Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Cambridge MA, USA. In 2011, he founded Shahin Gharakhanian MD Consulting LLC, an elite group of executive consultants providing strategic and operational expertise in clinical development and medical affairs. Since 2011, his group has collaborated globally with over 20 companies, including but not limited tom GENZYME Corporation (USA), Enanta Pharmaceuticals (USA), GSK/ViiV Healthcare (USA), NOVARTIS (Switzerland & USA), ORCHARD Therapeutics (UK), Stallergenes Greer (EU & USA), Transgene (France).
During his academic training, Dr Gharakhanian was a fellow and deputy to Professor Willy Rozenbaum co-discoverer of HIV (Science, 1989) and thus collaborated with 2008 Nobel of Medicine Laureates, Francoise Barré-Sinoussi and the late Luc Montagnier. Following his MD, his specialty training in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases was at Sorbonne-University of Paris and he has an extensive 20-year record in Continuing Medical Education at Harvard University Medical School Programs. Additionally, he holds diplomas in Tropical Medicine and International Health as well as in Public Health. Dr Gharakhanian who has co-authored a large body of conference presentations and peer-review publications continues to edit and publish within medical literature. He is a member of several Learned Societies including IAS: International AIDS Society, IDSA: Infectious Disease Society of America, and SFILF: French-Language Infectious Diseases Society.
